Yu-Gi-Oh! 1st Edition Metal Raiders Booster Box

This metal raiders booster box is a sealed 1st Edition display of Metal Raiders, set code MRD. Upper Deck released the set in North America on June 26, 2002. It was the second Core Booster in the TCG, so it followed Legend of Blue Eyes directly. The box holds 24 packs, and each pack then holds 9 cards.

The chases in a metal raiders booster box

Gate Guardian (MRD-000) and Thousand Dragon (MRD-143) take the two Secret Rare slots. Black Skull Dragon, meanwhile, fronts the box as the Ultra Rare cover card. Mirror Force, Solemn Judgment, and Change of Heart anchor the Ultra Rare chases. Summoned Skull and Barrel Dragon add two more era staples. The Gate Guardian pieces — Sanga, Kazejin, and Suijin — also arrive as Super Rares. Konami’s official Yu-Gi-Oh! site still carries the modern card database for contrast.

A bigger set, and two firsts

A metal raiders booster box opens the largest early set in the game. Metal Raiders holds 144 cards: 100 Common, 22 Rare, 10 Super Rare, 10 Ultra Rare, and 2 Secret Rare. The set also introduced Counter Trap Cards, starting with Magic Jammer. Common Fusion Monsters also appeared here first. Each pack holds one rare or foil, so every pack pays out something. A Secret Rare never comes guaranteed, however, and most boxes average two Ultra Rares. Browse our sealed products for more vintage sealed displays.
